DOG: Buildin' Them Chops

I found some unique white eggplant to grill with a few pork chops and some peppers last night. No big deal really. Just wanted to let everybody know (and see) that the new Weber Genesis is really working out well. I love it.

I used a McCormick rub called Sweet & Smoky on the chops and they were absolutely wonderful. It was formerly known as Cinnamon Chipolte, but for whatever reason the marketing department must've thought they'd sell more of it as Sweet & Smoky. I assume this because it is neither sweet nor smoky. But it is a damn good rub for pork.

For the veggies, just paint them with some EVOO and salt & pepper to taste.

The chop on the left didn't get as much seasoning because Mrs. Dog reminds me that everyone doesn't have the taste for elaborate flavors like I do. I don't think that one looks very pretty either.

We picked up a McCormick Far East Sesame Ginger Blend today to do some stir fried chicken inside. Added some sesame oil, curry, green peppers while cooking and it was definitely a success. Tabasco sauce while scrambling the eggs and plain old river rice in a wok made for a very satisfying meal.

Too blooming hot to grill outside today and we caved in to our stir fry cravings. Will have to check out the spice you mentioned for our next grilling experience.

BTW, we picked up Keller Williams' latest this week: Thief. Excellent. Highly recommended.

we went to a wedding last night. for dinner i had 6-7 vodka tonics. when you are meeting a friend to run at 6 am on sunday, maybe you shouldnt still be drinking vodka at 10 pm. i had an appetizer there that i had for the first time. they were shrimp that were butterflied, ice cold, wrapped up in a snow pea with a toothpick thru it and then there was like a flavored oil on it. i chased that waitress across the room to get more. when the tray has 40 is it wrong to take 10?

Fan,
I'm like that with bacon-wrapped scallops. When I'm at an event that has those, I'm likely to tackle the server, steal the tray, then build a fort out of tables and chairs to defend my plunder.

@Patty: Never seen the Far East Sesame Ginger Blend. I know they've got a lot of new flavors out there. Next time I do stir fry I'm adding in leeks for something new. I usually just blend up garlic powder, onion powder, garlic pepper, olive oil and soy sauce for mine. I've not had great success with many of the "production blends" offered by McCormick. I prefer to buy the spices separately and make my own.

Thanks again for the reminder. I'll get working on a new WAYLT segment. It's been a while.

@Fan: Let me understand. You had 7 vodka tonics for dinner. You chased a waitress across a room. No damn wonder you are meeting a friend to "run" in the morning. After a night like that I can see why Mrs. Fan ain't "running" with you!!!
