What to make of recent news that the cops shot a Connecticut monkey, who was on wine and Xanax, beating the shit out of some woman?
What to make of the NY Post editorial cartoon linking the monkey's shooting to President Obama's Economic "Deterrent" Package?
Al Sharpton (surprise surprise) thought it was racist. Not sure why, Obama isn't even from Connecticut... although wine and Xanax are possibilities.
I thought the cartoon was funny. The truth lies just below the surface of humor.

I can see why people would think it was racist. But that will be ongoing for at least the next 4 years.
I want to know WHY someone would even want a monkey for a pet.

oh yeah....i see why peeps would think that. dude, listen to the audio from the 911 call. i heard it on the radio the other day and it's chilling. the thing ripped her face off. chimps fight by ripping cheeks and noses and eyes....ears....

Racist? I think not! It is clear that the joke is that President had a monkey write the stimulus plan. I dare those offended to prove that he did not!

I have to admit, I didn't get the joke of it initially -- which is funny, cause I usually get the most obscure humor right away.
I could definitely see the racist angle in it, or see how it could be taken as racist.
Quite honestly, if I were the editor, I wouldn't have let it run because it could be taken incorrectly very easily.
(Oh, and chimps are WAAAAY stronger than humans. I once saw a chimp and a sumo wrestler have a tug of war on TV -- chimp won EASILY.)
I have heard the term, but there is not a porch in sight in the cartoon. It is clearly referring to the monkey that was shot by police last week. Should all police officers with big noses be equally offended? It is that hypersensitivity that creates "issues" such as these. When reviewed in the context and forum in which it was written, it could not possibly have been intended to be a racist joke. The NY Post is read largely by minorities after all. We all should just relax!
