It's been a few weeks since I posted one of these of my very own. In the spotlight today at my house is the music of Michael Burks. I don't know how the sounds of such a hot blues guitarist could have escaped me for so long but this guy just burns. His sound is a bit like that of Albert King, perhaps because Burks too uses the "Flying V" guitar favored by Albert. But Burks also uses a Les Paul and has a sound all his own. Anyway he's at the top of my list for right now.
The rest are:
5. Downchild Blues Band: Live At The Palais Royale
If you want to hear the band upon which the Blues Brothers is based, this is it.
4. Robin Trower: Living Out Of Time - Live!
This live album is much better than most of his studio stuff.
3. Eumir Deodato: Prelude and Deodato 2
Can't get that Brazilian music out of my head... don't really want to.
2. Fela Kuti: The '69 Los Angeles Sessions
The more I listen to Fela the more I like him. This album fuses Afro-Beat with American Funk. One listen and you'll recognize that funk music did indeed come from Africa too.

I'm back to classic Billy Joel. Went to see Movin' Out last weekend and have been on a kick since.
BTW, the "piano man" in the band for Movin' Out was a guy named Matthew Friedman. AWESOME, and he plays in a few bands. You can find some of his stuff online.
Ferenzik
a guy I used to work with and he sat right in front of me and we had lunch a few times. he turned me on to ren and stempy. was going thru old cds to rip that i found not in my regular rack. since it was about 93 or so when he gave me the cd, i googled him and he has a few cds out now and actually tours with todd rundgren and jefferson starship. how cool is that? the cd is wild man of borneo.
should have also mentioned that i emailed him and caught up. cool dude.
and dog, just to tighten the chain you're on and get you wound up - american idol this week had barry gordy and smokey robinson on as the mentor and then tonight had stevie wonder as the guest performer who exclaimed his love for the show. i can understand you poking fun when a newer pop star is on...but damn, those are some legends right there.
downloaded a seth walker cd from amazon for .99
it is great
check him out
Sounds like Gordy and Smokey needed some money REAL bad. Can't blame them. They've got a lifestyle to keep up. Or gambling debts and alimony perhaps?
As for Stevie Wonder, of couse he loves the show. He can't see how bad it is.
The day Aretha Franklin mentors those idiots is the day that show will gain legitimacy with me.
I must admit that American Dildo is not near as bad as Prancing With The Stars. Oh my God that show is horrendous.
@ Fan: What about that Walter Trout stuff you were praising last week? What album was it you were listening to?
Damn While, why didn't you turn me on to this Seth Walker sooner?
Dude just played Kclingers Tavern in Hanover, PA up in my neck of the woods on March 4th.
Anybody that plays Kclingers on Wed. nights is usually killer. I've seen Smokin Joe Kubek, Candye Kane, and Anthony Gomes up there. And they book top notch blues acts darn near every week.
Had a little run-in with the local Hanover Barney Fife-impersonating police force last time I was up there. Assholes caused me to miss part of the Anthony Gomes show. I haven't been back since. Idiots didn't find my contraband though.
