Gen X Cartoons

You want cartoons? You can't handle cartoons! Ok, as requested by Still A Cowbell, let's take that walk over the next few days. One of my favorites was Speed Buggy, introduced in 1973. I always thought it was on forever, but from reading the wiki article, it started in 1973 with 16 episodes and was then syndicated for the next 10 years. I watched it all the time, but like others here have said - only on Saturday mornings. I just found out that Mel Blanc voiced Speed. Also from reading the wiki, it was apparent to everyone, even as little kids that it was a rip-off of Scooby-Doo. Same channel, same production company - they even shared the spotlight a few times. I can just see the pitch meeting...."Ok, the stoner, mutt, dyke, babe and flamer are doing well, now let's do Scooby-Doo and replace the mutt with a talking car!" "Boss, you're a genius!!!" The very first time I heard the Dow Bubbles as they talked while swirling down the drain - I swore it was the voice of Speed Buggy. Maybe I'll go look that up. This isn't store bought, but I bet it would bring back memories.

Never even heard of Speed Buggy.
Ever.
Speed Racer was horrible.
I watched Tom and Jerry, Road Runner, Bugs, Spiderman and Batman.
I dont know why I watched Spiderman and Batman but I did.
Which one had the Rhino? I must have seen that one a million times.

The old Warner Brothers cartoons are by far superior to anything in their day or any other day.

Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, Pepe Le Pew, Sylvester Pussycat, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, and Tweety Bird were the best.

Tom & Jerry and Popeye are right up there too, especially for their violence. Somebody got the shit beat out of them in every show.

Some of my other more current favorites are Ren & Stimpy, Cow & Chicken, and I Am Weasel.

Throughout the years I have also enjoyed George of the Jungle, Dick Dastardly, Hong Kong Fooie, Morocco Mole & Secret Squirrel, Huckleberry Hound, and last but certainly not least, my old buddy, Deputy Dawg.

"Jest a cotton-pickin' minute thayre Muskie. Where you gawn with dem eggs, boy?"

I loved Deputy Dawg and the characters who lived in his bayou, Vincent Van Gopher, Muskie Muskrat, Ty Coon, and Ali Gator.

I think Deputy Dawg was only in production from 1962-1963 but they're great if you have little kids.

Ones I remember watching are:
Super Friends (Wonder Twin power activate)
Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan
Captain Caveman
Fat Albert (Buck Buck # 1 comin' through)
The Funky Phantom (revolutionary war ghost)
Hong Kong Phooey (Scatman's other job besides Chico and the Man)
Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space
Pebbles and Bamm Bamm (Schleprock!)
Harlem Globetrotters
Tarzan
US of Archie

I forgot that there were actually some cartoons that were not on Saturday mornings - mostly the Japanese imports (Speed Racer, Marine Boy) and some syndicdated like the Flintstones and Spider-Man. Of course these non-Saturday cartoons were on some amazing thing called UHF.

I figure we gotta leave the whole Sid and Marty Krofft as a separate topic.

I have vague memories of Speed Buggy and Hong Kong Phooey. Same goes for Electra Woman and Dynagirl which was not a cartoon but memorable nonetheless. I was very VERY young but I remember watching them!
I still watch Tom and Jerry;-) Hard to believe but some of those were from the 1940's right?
I liked some of the offshoots of Tom and Jerry too. Didn't Droopy come from there and the other dog Butch?
The Flintstones? The early episodes were brilliant. Same goes for all Warner Bros. Plain and simple those guys were geniuses! I also remember Dastardly and Muttley:-)
What about Little Rascals/Our Gang? Anyone watch those as kids?
