Steelers Dump Davenport

The Steelers went in the closet and dumped Najeh Davenport, clearing up the crowded backfield they put together. With Mendenhall and Melwelde Moore coming onboard since the end of last season, the roll (not toilet paper) Najeh never nailed down was up for grabs. He never did seem to move the pile the way the Steelers brass wanted him to. Hopefully this doesn't mean his career is down the crapper. If he could ever get that one night back, do you think he would change his actions?

I'm not going to miss him. I'm sure the Steelers felt Davenport could fill the void left by The Bus but Bettis is a Hall of Famer and Davenport couldn't carry his jockstrap. The guy made a few plays for us on 3rd down but couldn't carry the team or ever score from the 2-yard line when we needed him to. In 2008
we are gonna have a much faster offense and quicker more potent running game. Now if only we could get some blocking...

With his mediocre play and off field behavior..getting rid of him was a no brainer...especially dumping his contract for some under the payroll room.

Apparently the Steeler personnel office doesn't have any more of a clue than us idiot fans.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you think the Steelers are going to replace a back like Jerome Bettis anytime soon you are sadly mistaken.

How long did it take us to replace Terry Bradshaw? That is what this is the equivalent of.

It was 8 years between the end of the career of Earl Campbell and the beginning of the career of Jerome Bettis. These are the two greatest power-backs I've ever seen play. Campbell being more powerful, Bettis being more elusive.

I'd say it might be a few more years before the NFL sees anything approaching the likes of these two. And for the Steelers to sign whoever it is would be pure luck at this point.

One thing for sure, it wasn't Najeh Davenport.
