Two Days Of Worry

I am waiting for more news on this story to develop before I go completely off. Newer articles are saying now that he might just help Dan buy out his brothers. I can't believe a bunch of brothers, 70 year old brothers, can't accept $35 million each for their share in the Steelers. What the heck do they want? At this point in their lives, is $50 million different than $35? I'm starting to rant so I better wait until more details come out. I've always said...ALWAYS......that if the Rooney family gave up ownership and someone came in who didn't do things The Steeler Way, it could be the end of my love affair with the team. Part of the reason I love them so much is the fact that they ooze class. The first time a fantasy football owner in the mold of Dan Snyder comes here and starts to overpay aging stars from other teams to come here as free agents.....I'm done. I'll start following High School football. I swear.

What a mess. Sounds like a good many of the Rooneys want to kill the fatted calf. And it might not be a bad time to do so if you're them.

How much bigger of a cash cow is the NFL going to grow into? The game itself is already a shadow of what football used to be. Perhaps they see, as I do, a decline in the popularity of the NFL in the coming decades. Cash out now.

Everybody hates all the TV coverage pre-game, post-game etc. They market it to death. NBC just added Dan Patrick to pair up with Keith Olberman on their Sunday night show. What value can this possibly bring the true football fan?

Perhaps I'm wrong and football will just acquire a different set of fans. Ones who care more about the fluff of entertainment than watching giant men knock each other on their ass. And the beat will go on.

These old Rooney men are trying to provide for their children, grandchildren and beyond. They do not see NFL football as having much growth potential into the lives of their descendants. Plus their brother and his son run the team. It's not like they have an active role in the Steelers day-to-day.

I'd hate to see the Rooneys relinquish control of the team. But I think we should prepare for that. At least the potential buyer seems like he fits the "Steeler" mold. Despite the fact that he is from Philadelphia and lives in New York. So what? Joe Greene was from Texas and who among us can say anyone is more of a Steeler than him?
