Hard to believe I'm on the 10th edition of What Are You Listening To Now. But I'm generally curious what people listen to. And I'm willing to share what I'm listening to in hopes that somebody will check it out and get out of the ruts they're in. Explore beyond what the music industry machine tells you is "cool" and find some great stuff that you also really like.
I'm on a mission to discover as much great music as I can and every time I find stuff that I think is really great I write one of these WAYLT pieces. So yeah, I have a few more that are real finds queued up in my playlists right now.
#10 - Jan Akkerman - 10,000 Clowns On A Rainy Day
#9 - New Riders of The Purple Sage - Where I Come From. Great new release from NRPS.
#8 & #7 - Jack DeJohnette - Parallel Realities & Music For the Fifth World. Wonderful jazz.
#6 - 11th Hour - Deanna Bogart - This is one of her best releases. Got to hype our local Boogie Queen!
#5 - Jeff Healey - Songs From The Road. Released posthumously, this is Healey at his best.
#4 - Brian Bromberg (Fan's buddy) - It Is What It Is. This is a brand new release and it's terrific.
#3 - Paco DeLucia, John McLaughlin & Al DiMeola - Passion, Grace, & Fire. Just WOW!
#2 - Catherine Russell - Sentimental Streak. The woman is unbelievable. Superbly talented vocalist and musician.
#1 - Memphis Minnie - The Complete Recorded Works Volumes 1 thru 5. After listening to these 5 volumes I have come to the conclusion that Memphis Minnie had more impact on blues music in general than even Robert Johnson! Almost every song is the basis for some other well know blues standard. A history lesson set to music. Great stuff. The recording quality on some tracks is not great. But if you close your eyes you can transport back to 1939 and hear these songs for the first time as they were when they were first played on an old scratchy 78rpm record player.

I can tell you some of what was DJ'd to us by Still A Stroke in the car for 9 hours on Saturday on our way to the deep deep SOBX. It will be 180 degrees from your list, but I love it that she loves music.
Boom Boom Pow - Black Eyed Peas
Poker Face - Lady Ga-Ga
Love Story - Taylor Swift
Big Girls Don't Cry - Fergie
The Climb - Miley Cyrus
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Those are the ones I remember most. Also Avril Lavigne and Demi Lavado...Selena Gomez. Sigh.
I finally got the iPod jack and played some of my stuff that everyone in the car would know but that doesn't amount to much.
Still A Dad came over for a visit yesterday and we walked the beach, went for a run, got cleaned up and listened to some blues while eating fried chicken and macaroni salad while having a few ice cold beers. Complete day 1 is in the books.
....and don't wonder why I', awake on vacation at 5 something in the AM. I napped yesterday from 3-6:45! Still went to bed at 11. I am raring to go today.

It's good that she listens to music. Hopefully one day she'll look to see who wrote the song and wonder who that is. Then explore that.
I remember listening to the Allman Brothers at about 16 and wondering who McKinley Morganfield and Sonny Boy Williamson were. And when I discovered them... well, there was no turning back.
If you got things to do on vacation, you got to get out of bed to do them. I get up early on vacation too.
