Holmes Hurts Himself

After Santonio Holmes signs his first contract with the Steelers, I can't wait to see how it slots between the picks around it both this year and last year. I'm thinking even though his scrapes with the law were minor - The Steelers may still get a benefit from them in the form of a slightly lower contract for his draft position. Speaking of which - they may need to get some verbiage in there about his off field behavior. Not sure how the Ben contract will shake out - but since the Steelers backed him and didn't criticize him for his crash, maybe now would be a good time to sign him also. Maybe he feels a tad guilty right now and would take slightly less himself. I'll tell you what - should they repeat as Super Bowl champions this year, they are in HUGE trouble with both Ben and Troy's contracts coming up. I think it would be idiotic to try to redo both of those deals in the same off-season...but what do I know?

Good idea about signing both Ben and Troy. But with the numbers those guys are going to command it would be impossible to sign them both in the same year and stay under the salary cap.

Actually my big concern for the immediate future is Ike Taylor. If he continues to improve this year and becomes recognized throughout the league as the shut-down corner he was in the last 8 games & playoffs I don't see how we can keep him. Especially in light of the Polamalu and Big Ben deals looming on the horizon.

Word around the campfire is Ike has been working real hard this offseason and if that translates on the field this fall, somebody will pay Ike. I hope it's the Steelers. But as pleasant a problem as that's going to be, it's likely a problem for which the Steeler FO may have no answer.
