Hours after posting an opinion on what to do with Joey Porter and predicting that he had played his last game as a Steeler, I got an email from Still A Dad saying he was let go. I'm assuming it was because Porter threatened to hold out if he doesn't have a new deal and the Steelers had no intention of giving him a long term contract with James Harrison in the fold. Basically, Harrison did what Steeler backup linebackers do - he forced a starter out of a job. When you have someone who can play the position as well as the starter and he's making less than 50% of said starter.....the writing is on the wall. Also interesting to note - Porter was a Cowher guy all the way and came to camp last year a little disgruntled because of his contract ONLY after BC reached out to him and asked him to come. Faneca made comments at the Pro Bowl this year to the tune of "why did all the other teams want our assistants but we didn't?". Tomlin would cause an uproar if Faneca found himself out of a job. I think he's quite safe. I also hear the Tomlin is high on a LB that he helped draft for the Vikings....and I think the guy is a free agent. He wouldn't take Harrison's spot, but who knows what's coming in the next few weeks? I'm still a little shocked this happened so quickly but it sure does send a message to every player on the team.

With James Harrison chewing nails, you could see Peezy's days numbered with his age and salary cap hit. Plus, I'm sure Tomlin wants to win this year, but you know he's looking at the next 3-4 years. This is his big shot as head coach and he's going to do it his way.
How do other teams do it? This new coaching regime thing is exhausting!
J. Peezy's heyday was 2002-2003. He didn't do shit in 2006 until the playoffs when, fortunately, he mustered the energy to play at his 02-03 level for 4 straight games... especially vs. the Colts.
Never was the same after getting shot in the ass if you ask me. And his mouth was WAAAAAY to big for his ever diminishing game.
No big payday for him in da 'Burgh. Hope the door didn't hit him in the ass on the way out... he got a gunshot wound back there to protect.
Not sure Harrison has all the skills Porter had but he sure has the heart and guts of a true Stiller. Heart and speed you can't coach. We'll be fine with this.
And most importantly we didn't waste a bunch of money on this washed-up thug so there should be some moolah in the Rooney's jar to pay Polamalu, should Troy actually find a niche in Tomlin's new defense (whatever that turns out to be).
