DOG: Beano Cook

Beano Cook

I love Beano Cook. He is a Pittsburgh icon that few know much about. Beano has probably forgotten more college football than any living human has ever known... and Beano hasn't forgotten much. His analysis of college football and players is always spot on.

He is renowned for his quick wit and historical knowledge of all things sports.

A few years back Beano suffered a severe illness and had pretty much retired from the public eye. But fortunately for all of us -not the least of which is Beano himself- he is back now and as good as ever.

I heard him being interviewed on ESPN radio today while I sneaked out of the office in the early afternoon to exchange a Christmas gift at Dick's. Anyway here's a couple things Beano said that cracked me up.

Regarding his predictions for the college football national champion over the past 10 years Beano said, "I've had one of the two teams playing for the championship in every year but I've only gotten two years right... which is one more than Bob Stoops (coach of Oklahoma). "

Host says, "Would you like to hear my predictions?" Beano says, "Do I have a choice?"

And here's my favorite becase Fan is sure to be posting lots of stuff about American Idol now that I hear it's back polluting the airwaves and cables again. Host says, "Did you see American Idol last night?

Beano says, "No."

Host says, "Why not?"

Beano replies, "I don't have a high IQ. But it does contain three digits."

Long live Beano Cook!

Bikini clad women? Please. She better have 44DDs with a guarantee that that the bikini comes off. Otherwise, don't even bother.

We used to be entertained by people with talent. Now we are entertained by talentless people making fools of themselves. America, ain't it great?

i dont think that winning a singing competition invalidates kelly clarkson as a world class vocalist. thats talent. my arguments to this debate will never waiver:

a. family time, which is important to a guy like me
b. music cultivation for kids. anything at all that can get kids interested in music and make it fun is ok with me
c. hot chicks
d. hot chicks in hi-def
e. the new judge (hubba hubba)

You are entitled to being entertained by talentless fools.

You may also pass off talentless fools to your family as world class vocalists.

Many do the same. And if this is what it takes for American parents to spend quality time with their kids, I'm all for it.

Just know that it is cultural masterbation.

i respectfully disagree with most of your assessments. we all get it. you dont like the show. but kelly clarkson has pipes out the whazoo. is she a fool? maybe. is she a talentless fool? i think not! fat ass aretha calls her the best singer since fat ass aretha and i know you respect her. so, i dont think i'm passing off anything.

also - this is not "what it takes" for american parents to spend quality time with their kids! lol. i'm laughing as i type that that one would draw that conclusion from my statements. i know about 75 dads of kids and honestly i cant think of one that spends more time with their kid than yours truly. it just so happens that my daughter LOVES the show and LOVES to sing. her favorite three wii games are guitar hero, disney sing-it and you guessed it, american idol. i have two choices on tuesday at 8. i can either sit down with her and laugh at the attention seeking idiots and talk about why a good singer was good......or i can go in another room and read a magazine or book. either way, she's watching the show because she loves it. i choose to sit with her and Mrs Fan because it's one of two regularly scheduled tv shows that we watch together as a family. i just don't get where that logic is flawed. growing up as a kid, as a family we watched tv together every night from probably 7-9 or so in the winter months.....EVERY NIGHT...all 4 of us. so, please allow me to spend a few hours a week with mine. and for the record, isnt sports cultural masturbation. what if i picked on you because i watched 0 hours of college football over the past 10 years and you've watched 1000? LOL. What did those 1000 hours get you? Pot, meet the kettle....lol. i'm going to email mrs dog and get her on my side!!!!
