Fast Willie Makes Some Fast Cash

Doing what they do best, the Steelers today locked up Willie Parker for 4 years while he was already under contract. The deal is reportedly worth $13.6 million dollars with a signing bonus of around $3.5 million. What's super about a deal like this is that they get a young player, who gained notoriety in the Super Bowl, who isn't making a ton of cheddar yet...and they dangle $3.5 million in front of him to sign right now and he has little choice but to do so. These guys want money and they don't want to wait for it. The Steelers would MUCH rather have $13.6 over 4 years with less than $4 million guaranteed as opposed to $13.6 over 4 years with $8-$9 million up front. It's a wonderful job by the front office and a fantastic contract in my opinion. Now we'll see if they get Ben or Troy done before the season starts. I would think Troy comes first, but we'll have to wait. I don't think he's more important, but he has fewer years left on his contract.

No reason to even think about Troy or Ben before this season starts. With Willie in the fold, the next top priority is Ike Taylor.

We got next year and the year after that to worry about Troy and Ben. Salary cap will be much higher by then too.

i think they really wanted coke and mcfadden to have great preseasons before they started in earnest with ike. they'll sign him. from what i've been reading, he's making quotes like "i'll be here next year".

McFadden is doing OK. Coke, not so much.

How long 'til Anthony Smith is in the starting lineup to stay? Week 1 I pray.

Kiesel is a problem. Oh, he'll do just fine filling Kimo's role but I'm worried about who is going to fill Kiesel's old role--and I ain't just talking Wedge Buster on special teams either.

Heard they had Nua taking snaps at TE. I guess if you have trouble at DE and you're athletic and big they try you at TE. Heck, he can probably catch better than that Dekker dude who may be cut by the time I finish typing this.
