New Twist To Cowher Decision

The Rooney family has agreed to give Bill Cowher until next Tuesday to make a final decision as to if he will return for another season. Sounds good in theory. The problem is, Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm are already scheduled to have interviews with Atlanta and Arizona. If Whiz takes the Atlanta job and Grimm gets the Arizona job - then Cowher decides to walk - I will not be a happy camper. There could be a silver lining in all of this if it plays out that way - The Dog has been a fan of Mark Whipple for some time and thinks he is as good a candidate as any. I hate it that our coaching situation has turned into the kind of circus that I can't stand. I'm sure the Rooneys feel the same way.

The longer Cowher takes the more likely it is he will return. The Rooneys gave him time to smooth things over with Kay... or not.

Kay, the mansion in Raleigh, and the Rooneys insistence on Cowher staying in Pittsburgh during the offseason are the 3 stumbling blocks in this situation. Money is not a factor, although sports journalists would have you believe it so.

If Whisenhunt goes to ATL he will make both Fan and Jim Mora Sr. prophets. As Mike Vick is most definitely a "coach killer."

If Grimm goes to Phoenix he is dumber than he looks. Working for the Bidwells is more of a coach killer than 10 Mike Vicks could ever be.

If Whipple gets the head coaching job in Pittsburgh then I hope LeBeau stays on as DC.

And with the retirement of Dick Hoak, what's the possibility of hiring Jerome Bettis as RB coach? I mean, he absolutely sucks on NBC football. He is only marginal as a man of the square table in the Anheuser-Busch "Man Law" commercials. But Willie Parker still sings his praises as a mentor. Heck he could be just the guy Najeh "The Dump Truck" Davenport needs. Just a thought.
