Totally Perplexed

I read numerous accounts of the story that SI.com posted Saturday stating that Tomlin was announced as coach. There just doesn't seem to be a good reason for it. Could it be that SI.com had already written 3 different pieces that announce the Steelers new coach - each with a different choice - and one of them was posted accidently? That seems far fetched. The only conclusion that makes sense to me is that Tomlin is the choice and someone couldn't contain themselves from leaking it to the press....yet nobody will confirm the report taking the legs out from under the story. Weird. Well, I guess there's still hope for Grimmy as I favor the continuity angle. If they are waiting to interview Rivera a second time, I wish they would just come out and say it.

Rumor this morning on DVE is that Grimm will be announced tomorrow as new head coach.

Truth is: Why do I always have to be the guy setting the record straight? Why can't I be the asshole breaking the story sometimes? ...well my wife thinks I'm the asshole far too often so...

Word around my campfire is that Grimm has been offered the job but did not immediately accept the Rooney's terms. This apparently happened late last week, possibly Thursday.

When Grimm did not immediately jump at the offer, the Rooney's contacted Tomlin to see if he would accept their terms if/when they were offered. This apparently happened on Friday.

Tomlin has stated he did not speak to the Rooney's on Saturday.

My guess is either one or the other will accept whatever the Rooney's have on the table or negotiations with both are on-going through what's left of the weekend.

Supposedly the Steelers will announce their decision on Monday. This will only occur if one or the other negotiates a contract today or early tomorrow.

All I can draw from all this crap is that you can go ahead and root for the Bears today if you want, Ron Rivera is not a serious candidate.

It's coming down to the wire with Grimm and Tomlin neck and neck.

Think about what I have written. How else can you logically make sense of what has been reported in both local Pittsburgh media and national media on this subject over the last few days?

Jesus Christ, I was at the Giant grocery store this morning buying shrimp for today's games when I overheard 2 dudes talking about the Steelers hiring Tomlin... like it was known fact! Amen.

well, let's hope it's all just business between the agent and the team's negotiator. i can understand the rooneys offering less than what other first time coaches get, and they were probably hurt and upset that russ didn't jump at the first offer. if that's the way it played out, russ should know better than anyone that while the rooneys don't pay top dollar - they are very loyal and will continue to keep him employed (even if he doesn't make the playoffs for 3 straight seasons). i'd hate for this marriage to start off with an "us vs them" mentality.
