I'm not here to mock cheerleaders. My wife was a cheerleader in jr. high. When I was a senior in high school (when John Hughes ruled the world) the head cheerleader lived 2 blocks away and was a very good friend of mine - still is! But I saw something on ESPN tonight that I just had to shake my head at, and then I found the article on their website . This girl is exactly who Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri were mocking when they did their Spartan Cheerleader skits back in the day. This girl fell 15 feet right onto her pumpkin. Bang! Hardwood floor, meet the hottie. The crowd hushed, the stretcher came out. And then, not unlike Mike Utley giving the "thumbs up" sign to let the crowd know he was OK, well, actually it was nothing like that at all..... she heard the school's fight song being played and she started doing the routine while strapped into the stretcher!! Never mind that one wrong twist could injure her further (her neck was in fact broken!) - the show had to go on! These people came to see her cheer and cheer she will, damnit. I shouldn't say another word about it because no matter how much sarcasm I try to drip - I can't top the visual of this broken neck girl cheering away to her fight song while strapped in tighter than Hannibal Lecter. I wonder if the band was really playing or if she was the only one hearing the music? Any way.............
